Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra recently. The Company will be the first major Android maker with Qualcomm’s latest chips and Snapdragon 888. Samsung will use an immense marketing budget and longstanding carrier relationships especially if you are purchasing in a US carrier store.
Samsung Galaxy series will probably be excellent phones with well-balanced and capable features. It will make big camera claims and the ever-swinging pendulum of Samsung’s OneUI software.
Bixby is Samsung’s digital assistant which was launched in 2017 with the Galaxy S8. Obviously, it is a digital assistant, but let’s distinguish it from Alexa, Siri, and Google. Samsung’s Bixby is well known to solve a simpler task, and will be that “bright sidekick” that complements other services.
Samsung tried to push Bixby and also created a dedicated button for it, but later dropped that button and assigned it to a long press of the power button.
Why does Samsung discontinue developing Bixby?
The reason behind it is avoidance against Google and Android. Also, Samsung is trying to be Apple after all these years’ success. If the Company cannot bring it up to Siri (a low bar!) or find a way to bring it back to its more focused roots then it’s time to put it up. Samsung’s user interface becomes overloaded with features and weird UI for a few years so it’s high time to let Bixby go.
